Circuit Board
Made out of a discarded circuit board, this bookmark has an art deco feel and a mysterious quality. Submitted by Laine Farley

NeverLoseAutomatic Bookmark
This little gem came in a box made to look like a book. The front has a charming design of a deco flower decal on a red metal clip. Not visible in the scan is a little spring with a metal shaft that fits into the book. This was made by the NeverLose company in Los Angeles, probably in the 1940s. It is marked "Pat. Pend." but I can find no evidence of a patent. Maybe it didn't live up to its billing after all. Submitted by Laine Farley

Chart of the Ages
This odd depiction of the cosmos was given out in 1924 by C. S. Tubby, an evangelist minister in NJ and OH. Submitted by Laine Farley

Dorman-Scruggs Shoe Co.
Claiming to have "everything in footwear but feet", this Indiana business chose an odd giveaway to advertise shoes. Would you want to insert an aluminum foot in your book? The date is uncertain, probably early 1900s, and it once had a tassel and still has a ring attached to the toe. Submitted by Laine Farley

The Mark of a Book Lover
This is certainly one of the most beautiful and unusual bookmarks I own. There is no indication on it as to who created it or what it was meant to do. The flowers are themselves the bookmarks (see other image). This vase has a paper "foot" behind it that you would pull out to make the vase stand upright like a frame. (Thankfully no one ever used it so it is in perfect condition).
I could see this on a bookstore's counter where customers might be encouraged to take a bookmark, but is that what it was for? Does anyone know? Submitted by Lauren Roberts.

Individual Flower from The Mark of a Book Lover
One of the bookmarks in the vase (above). At least it wouldn't hurt the pages of your book or ever fade. Submitted by Lauren Roberts.
