General > INTRODUCTIONS

Kudos to Lauren and Alan and Laine for a job well done! I enjoyed meeting many of you and listening to your expertise on the subject of bookmarks.

Yes, we're a small bunch, but I have a feeling our numbers will soon be growing. Looking forward to the 2011 convention.

Hi everyone and thanks for introducing yourselves.

I'm sorry I didn't respond here as much as I would have liked. It was lovely meeting you all during the convention, and I hope to keep in touch.

Alex, in answer you your question, this site should stay up continuously, I'll set up separate areas to store the files from each year's convention. The only uncertain item for me are the recordings of the presentation. They stay at the webinar site we used and I don't know how long I will be able to keep them . You can count on them at least until the end of March. I'll announce more when I know more.

And I purposely used the phrase "each year's convention". I think we all showed that this convention idea is successful and I believe we can maintain it year to year. So let's start discussing the 2011 convention!

Hello to everyone from Indianapolis, USA! I'm sorry to have been unable to join you "live" this past weekend, but am grateful that I can listen to the recorded proceedings. My name is Kaye and I've collected bookmarks for about 30 years now. It began when a lovely marker fell from one of my 'not-yet-sister-in-law's' books. It was from England; a paper rectangle with deckled edges and a silk ribbon, an engraved drawing of Prince Albert Hall, and a short description of the hall. I thought it was so elegant from the bookmarks I knew (basically cardboard advertisements given out at the library). I decided right then to look for bookmarks like these wherever I went!

I accept ANY marker into my collection. The only "loosely enforced" guideline I give myself is that no marker be more than $10 (unless I find a 'treasure' that I'm inclined to pay more for). I haven't counted them in a while, but they must number around 600 now. I think my most unusual one is the cross-section of a seashell (I'll post a photo in the gallery). One of my "treasures" is a woven silk marker commemorating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. I keep my collection arranged in decorative baskets on my library shelves.

I hope this is only the first of many bookmark conventions. I'm excited to see other collections and talk with other collectors!

Good evening! I'm so glad for finding this blog. I'm a bookmmark collector too, but my collection is very specific: I only collect bookmarks with illustrations of Victoria Francés, a very famous spanish artist. Her books have been published in Spain, Europe and USA :) I leave here m collection blog. I hope you visit it! I have a lot of bookmarks for trade, most of them of comics.

See you!
