Alan Irwin: Sleeves and Protectors
I do try to keep the vintage pieces in protective plastic sleeves. They aren't on display, but they are safer than being heaped in a box and they're easier to flip through.

Alan Irwin: Closet Storage
Okay, here's where I keep the majority of my bookmarks. It's not pretty, but it keeps my office from being a series of bookmark mountains with bookmark foothills leading up to them.

Alan Irwin: Miscellaneous Album
I wish all of my paper bookmarks were stored in these albums. I try to organize them into pages that have some consistent theme so that I can 1) search them easier and 2) show them off with a smidge less embarrasement.

Alan Irwin: Album - Poets and Planes
Some of my album pages have more consistent themes. Both of these pages collect bookmark series: one is set of famous American women, the other is a set of vintage fighter planes (why did I put these together?)

Laine Farley - Card Catalog
What better use for a retired card catalog from the San Francisco Public Library. I found it in an antique store and immediately knew what I wanted to store in it. Each drawer is labeled with a category. It accommodates paper, metal, leather, fabric and other materials. I put small figural bookmarks in boxes.

Laine Farley - Card Catalog
I put some of the more fragile or nicer bookmarks in plastic sleeves. One problem is that the metal rods that were used to hold catalog cards in place create a bump in the middle. I decided not to take them out, however, and in some cases they help keep the bookmarks upright.

Laine Farley - Card Catalog
This cabinet holds 60 drawers. It is not one of the oldest but was probably made in the 1970s. Still, it is solid wood with excellent construction. I found some odd bits left in drawers or that had slid between drawers--call slips, notes written by library patrons, etc.

Laine Farley - French Memo Board
This memo board is one of my favorite ways to display bookmarks. It is easy to slip almost any type under or over the ribbons that criss cross the board. Sorry for the glare in this photo but some of these bookmarks are very fragile so I kept them in their protective sleeves. The memo boards are easy to find and some clever person could probably construct one.

Despoina - School library display
A display of bookmarks in the school library of the Experimental Senior High School of Ilion, Athens. I work there as teacher librarian. Some of the bookmarks were created to promote the library activities.
