Places: Los Angeles
Los Angeles ("City of Angels") is a place with a long history. Yet I have been unable to discover what made 1939 a birthday celebration of one year (or 100 years). Nevertheless, it's a fascinating bookmark with an image of a field of California's official flower, the golden poppy, on this soft leather bookmark and a full 1939 calendar.
My mother remembers many childhood and teenage springs spent in fields like this all over Los Angeles, picking the poppies that then went into bouquets in her mother's home. Submitted by Lauren Roberts.

Places: Coney Island
This bookmark is not from the more famous Coney Island of New York but rather Cincinnati, Ohio. Given that corn would be a major crop in the state, I have no idea why it wasn't named "Corn-y" Island, but I guess that would be too, um, corny? At any rate, the bookmark is hardly a traditional one, given that its three-dimensionality would destroy any book into which it was put. Still, I do love it. Submitted by Lauren Roberts.

Llanfair
Llanfair, the abbreviated name of a Welsh town situated on the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn in Welsh) and separated from the Welsh mainland by the Menai Strait, proudly possesses the longest single-word .com domain name in the world. Its official web site proudly proclaims those 58 letters as “The longest URL on the web!" (In Welsh, it only has 51 because ll and ch are regarded as single letters.) The full name can be seen at the top of the leather bookmark, and its translation below. Submitted by Lauren Roberts.

This die-cut bookmark in the shape of the landmark Coit Tower captures the colorful and whimsical spirit of the 1960s-1970s. An architecture librarian found it in the archives of a local architect. Submitted by Laine Farley
